The desire for up-dated finishes and fixtures motivated these homeowners to begin their remodel adventure. Their journey began in the kitchen with the existing cabinetry, which was refaced in rich alder for its warmth and fine even grain. A natural stone countertop was chosen for its movement and wide range of tones varying from soft honey to deep molasses. New ceramic subway tile furnished a luminescent quality to gently reflect the sunlight flowing in from the large window wall in the eating area. A transitional dining table with a stately pedestal base and coordinating dining chairs were added to comfortably accommodate family and friends for informal entertaining. Three unique pendant lights placed over the island invite guests to linger in the kitchen during meal preparation and cleanup while a carefully selected paint color contributes coziness and brings all these special elements together.
Great care was also taken in the living room to preserve and reuse existing materials. The stone on the fireplace surround was reworked to adapt to the newly reconfigured built-ins, which now feature the same rich alder cabinetry as the kitchen. This unique storage solution offers retractable doors engineered to provide easy access to the audio-visual equipment. The previous arches of the built-ins were removed and replaced with linear attributes for a stylish update. A new mantel furnished a focal point to highlight artwork while alder shelving was added to display family photos and collected treasures. Custom-built cornices frame the windows and coordinate beautifully with the pleated traversing drapery panels to complete the remodel journey for this home with an elegant and timeless feel.
