I’ve mentioned before how there always seems to be a clash of holiday kitsch and organic, contemporary style. However, as an interior designer, I’m committed to create spaces that are consistent with my style.
I’ve posted an example from CeTerra of how you can accomplish this feat of decorating. I start with the basics of organic and desert contemporary design — natural materials and matte finishes (like the table) and then mix in geometric pieces with interesting finishes, like the incredible ceramic spheres. I’m particularly fond of these home decor pieces because they transcend the seasons. Especially when you add florals or succulents. The green that is shown here keeps the whole composition fresh. The matte finish and volumes keep it contemporary and the touches of sparkle and gold (like the ornaments and gold spheres) add that sparkle to ring in the new year! In the past, designers were hesitant to mix metallics, however, the coppers and golds depicted here add interest and warmth!
To sum it all up, organic, contemporary design needn’t be boring and holiday decorating needn’t be cheesy!
