Everyone loves a good floral arrangement. Many of us have a few throughout the interior of our homes, but what about the outdoors? An outdoor arrangement can elevate your simple patio to one that looks beautiful and welcoming all year round. When choosing what elements will be used in your outdoor arrangement, it is very important to consider the type of container and greenery that will work best in the outdoor elements–especially in Arizona or the Southwest U.S. The CeTerra showroom carries a variety of containers that can be used on an outdoor table or the like, as well as plants that are “sun-friendly”.
When creating an outdoor arrangement with CeTerra, there are some Do’s and Don’ts we recommend to all of our clients;
Do: Choose Sun-Friendly Plants For Your Container!
We always suggest selecting sun-friendly plants over our standard artificial succulents and the like. The sun-friendly options we carry are UV coated and may last you upwards of 1-5 years in full sun, depending on the plant! Other factors for longevity include location of your arrangement and how often you may bring it inside etc.
Don’t: Choose an Unglazed Ceramic or Terracotta for Your Vessel
Unglazed ceramics and terracotta pieces are two finishes we don’t recommend for your outdoor arrangement unless that is absolutely the piece you are wanting to use! Terracotta does not do well when wet. Though it does not rain as often in AZ as it does elsewhere, this would still be our main concern for you. CeTerra carries a lot of wonderful ceramic pieces and most of these will do pretty well for you in the elements. Unfortunately, unglazed ceramics do not do so well. It is likely that they will fade and chip over time, especially when in full sun. Instead, consider materials like; wood, metal, glazed ceramics and concrete.
Do: Create Arrangements That Can Easily Be Brought Inside When Needed
Best practice would be to create an arrangement that is feasible enough for you to bring inside during a storm, extreme heat or when you will be away from home for an extended period of time. This may include; making the arrangement light enough for you to easily pick up and bring in, as well as choosing a vessel that is the right size for you to store somewhere in your home when needed!
Do: Consider Using Professional Assistance from CeTerra When Making an Outdoor Arrangement
While many of our clients do enjoy creating their own arrangements, we suggest using our assistance where you need it! We have some really wonderful materials available as well as combined years of experience in making beautiful arrangements for our clients. It can also be a benefit for us to assist when it comes to the need to anchor in, trim or adjust any of your greenery. We want you to step away with the most durable, well put together and beautiful arrangement possible!
