A couple of our favorite questions to ask about antiques are; how did something come to be? what was it made from and why was it made? Due to this curiosity, we have collected many items that were once used for the act of making something else, and that we now display as home decor. For example, we have concrete molds, brick molds, chair seat molds and furniture leg molds! As well as items that would’ve been used to make things in the kitchen, such as; tea strainers, cheese strainers and graters as well as confit pots. Not only are these antiques true works of art when displayed on the wall or a custom stand, but they are quite the conversation pieces, as they all have a fantastic story behind them!
To highlight just a few;
The ways in which we build and create things has changed a lot over the last few decades with the help of technology, but it is a wonderful thing to know how things were once done. The antique concrete molds that we have turned into wall art, feature unique and detailed patterns that show what a tile cast would have looked like. Cheese graters look a lot different too! These English Turtleback Graters would have likely hung on the kitchen wall or stood on their footed base. These are much different from the standard rectangular shape we see today.
